Rice grain spotting may be caused by a targe number of fungí. The presence of the different types of spots or discoloration decrease the product quality. It may appear externaliy on the lemma and palea or internally on the kernels, or both. From kernels that showed this pathology. symptoms were described, the agents associated with it were determined. Seeds from the cultivar "Irga 409" coming from Corrientes and Formosa provinces were analyzed. They were to be consumed under parboiling process. Following the rules given by the International Seed Testing Association, the blotter test method was used. The symptoms observed were diverse: kernels with black dots, discoloured, chalky, spotted, etc. The fungi involved were: NN (species still undetermined), Curvularia lunata, C. protuberata, Bipolaris oryzae, Epicoccum spp, Alternaría sp, Fusarium semitectum, F. equiseti, F. graminearum and F. oxysporum. Correlation between the several symptoms observed and each of the different isolated organisms were not found. Approximately 70% of the grains showed that NN was the agent concerned with this disorder. So, this fungus results the most frequent and important organism related with the rice grain spotting.
