In Antonio Dal Masetto’s narrative, the experience of the uprooting lived in his childhood is palpable. In order to demonstrate the transversality of the migratory theme in his work, we will analyze symbolic scenes from Siete de oro (1969), his first novel; La tierra incomparable (1994), written after the author’s return to his native land; and Imitación de la fábula (2014), his last nouvelle published. Starting from the concept of “migratory grief”, our hypothesis is that, in the works cited, the writer projects feelings linked to the reactivation of his own duel, after creating protagonists in his own image. These characters who, like him, are foreigners and travelers, when they “meet again” with their native land, they experience a reactivation of the migratory duel that leads them to evoke and restore the past, the undisputed basis of their identity.
