O presente trabalho busca analisar, sob o viés ambienta e econômico, o sistema fotovoltaico do Instituto Federal do Piauí, campus Floriano, Brasil.

The present work seeks to analyze from the environmental and economic point of view, the photovoltaic system of the Floriano campus of the Federal Institute of Piauí, in Brazil. For that, a survey was carried out for the production during 4 years of operation of the system, the energy consumption of the campus, as well as the quantification of the avoided CO2 emissions. It was verified that since its installation, the system produced a total of 1.016 MWh, covering 39% of the campus consumption. The savings in this period were BRL 443,742 (USD 86,500), generating a profit (net present value) of R$ 739,618 (U$D 144,175) at the system lifespan and it's estimated payback in 15 years. As for the environmental benefit, the campus avoided the emission of 442 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere in the period analyzed. It was concluded that the investment made by the institution is economically viable, despite the high payback time. It is essential that the institution maintains its energy saving measures in order to reduce costs, as well as reducing its CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. Furthermore, it is important that the Floriano campus plans the environmentally correct destination of the modules at the system lifespan.
