The ionospheric current system is represented by a model similar to the one used at the Peruvian dip equator and its parameters are obtained by fitting the horizontal component of the magnetic field produced at ground by that current system with the external part of the measured geomagnetic daily variations (g.d.v.) The horizontal component of the induced field is computed using a simple model for the distribution of the earth conductivity, which parameter p, the depth of the non-conducting layer, is obtained by fitting this field to the internal part of the horizontal Component of the g.d.v. To test the validity of the proposed model, the vertical components of the field produced by the current system and the field induced with the value of p found here are computed and compared with the external and internal parts, respectively, of the vertical component of the g.d.v. This methodology is applied, in the present work, to the g.d.v. measured in Nigeria and Central Africa.
