This study explores, through content analysis, how young people and adolescents are represented in fake news spread in Spain through social networks and messaging applications, as well as the features of these fake news. All hoaxes referring to this population segment registered on the Newtral and Maldita.es verification platforms between January 1 and June 30, 2021 (n=46) were analyzed. The results allow us to conclude that the projected image of youth is based on conflict and violence, to which is added the attribution of other traits such as intolerance and high attention and dependence on social networks. In addition, they are frequently linked to banal or soft themes. On the other hand, it is shown that these messages are spread predominantly in text format —although their combination with other media is common— and Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp are the applications through which a greater proportion of fake news circulate. Likewise, among the characteristics inferred from the analysis, the majority presence of messages of absolute invention and the non-attribution of sources as usual practice stand out.
