This paper presents the history of the investigations on the roads of El Shincal de Quimivil, from the first historical and archaeological contributions to the most recent studies. We know that in the Andean world the roads act as the memory of the social processes related to their construction and use. For the Inka people they were a means in themselves to mark territorial limits. Therefore, they became one more element that allows us to grasp the history of the populations connected to their trace. The fieldwork and laboratory analyses currently performed are based on a detailed and holistic study of the site’s road network, shedding new light on its morphology and spatial arrangement. All along its trace are revealed the different cultural materiality that result from the cultural variability and complexity that Inkas operated.
