After being expulsed from their territory in 1948, the Palestinians became refu-gees, yearning to return to their lands. The denial and trauma of the catastrophe they expe-rienced prevented them for decades from finding concepts that may allow them to under-stand what had happened, until they appropriated the word Nakba (catastrophe), which was resignified and turned into an internationally accepted political concept.
