Viajeros en fuga: de la enfermedad mental de Luca Prodan a la imaginación sociológica de Ian Hacking

Abstract

El presente trabajo se propone desarrollar una reflexión en torno a la contribución que las Ciencias sociales podemos hacer al estudio de las enfermedades mentales considerando la visión nativa de los actores sociales, psiquiatras y pacientes, y la imaginación sociológica del enfoque teórico con que analizamos esa visión. Tomando como punto de partida testimonios periodísticos en los que Luca Prodan describe su experiencia personal como enfermo mental en Italia, se exponen tópicos y autores recurrentes en la bibliografía especializada. A continuación, se describe cómo ciertos autores asociados al enfoque de la biopolítica han abordado la aparición de profesionales modernos del self y se pondera la importancia del relativismo de las clasificaciones respecto a los diagnósticos. Finalmente, se describe el estudio de Ian Hacking sobre el síndrome de la fuga y se establece la importancia de proponer interpretaciones sobre la enfermedad mental que puedan explicar la transitoriedad de sus determinaciones.

This work aims to develop a reflection on the contribution that social sciences can make to the study of mental illnesses considering the native vision of social actors, psychiatrists and patients, and the sociological imagination of the theoretical approach with which that vision is analized. Taking as a starting point journalistic testimonies in which Luca Prodan describes his personal experience as a mental patient in Italy, we expose certain recurring topics and authors in the specialized scholarship. It is described then how certain authors associated with the biopolitical framework have approached the appearance of modern professionals of the self and we ponder the importance of relativism regarding classifications and diagnoses. Finally, Ian Hacking's study on the fugue syndrome is described and the importance of proposing interpretations of mental illness that can explain the transience of its determinations is established.
