La votación del Cabildo Abierto del 22 de mayo de 1810: análisis de los votos más significativos para nuestra historia constitucional

Abstract

El presente artículo tiene como propósito analizar las posturas debatidas el 22 de mayo de 1810 durante el Cabildo Abierto desarrollado en la ciudad de Buenos Aires cuya votación determinó el cese del virrey Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros en sus funciones. Dicha ocasión permitió esgrimir argumentos en relación con cómo debería organizarse institucionalmente la administración política de esta región ante las noticias de la caída de la Junta Central. El análisis de los votos es revelador del “estado de cosas” existente, permite “tomar el pulso” de la comunidad política de la capital del virreinato y anticipa cuestiones que desembocarán en conflictos posteriores.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the positions debated on May 22, 1810 during the Cabildo Abierto held in the city of Buenos Aires, whose vote determined the viceroy’s removal from office. This occasion allowed arguments to be put forward in relation to how the political administration of this region should be institutionally organized in light of the news of the fall of the Central Board. The analysis of the votes is revealing of the existing “state of affairs”, allows “taking the pulse” of the political community of the capital of the viceroyalty and anticipates issues that will lead to subsequent conflicts.
