Desempleo y desigualdad: un análisis de impulso respuesta

Abstract

Este trabajo presenta un análisis de la relación entre la tasa de desempleo y el coeficiente de Gini en los Estados Unidos en la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Se encuentran principalmente dos resultados: (a) los shocks a la tasa de desempleo afectan en forma positiva, significativa y relativamente persistente a la desigualdad y (b) el incremento de la desigualdad en el último cuarto del siglo estaría influido sustancialmente por el aumento del desempleo inducido por la crisis petrolera.

This work presents an study of the relationship between the unemployment rate and the Gini coefficient in the United States during the second half of the 20'" century. Two main results are found: (a) unemployment shocks affects in a positive, significant and persistent way the Gini coefficient, and (b) the increased inequality of the last quarter of the century would have been substantially influenced by the increased unemployment induced by the oil crisis.
