La Ley Federal de Educación constituyó una pieza importante de las reformas estructurales realizadas en la década de los noventa en Argentina.
El principal aporte del presente trabajo consiste en evaluar empíricamente el impacto de la implementación de dicha ley sobre la calidad educativa del nivel medio, dado que no se conoce evidencia vinculada a la estimación de tal efecto causal. Los resultados, sugieren que en promedio la reforma mejoró (no mejoró) la performance en Lengua (Matemática). Sin embargo, se obtienen efectos negativos para escuelas públicas, rurales, de escasos recursos, situadas en partidos pobres o con tamaños relativos extremos

The Federal Education Law was an important part of the structural reforms carried out in Argentina during the nineties. The main contribution of this paper is to assess the impact of this law implementation on the education quality of secondary schools, since we do not know empirical evidence linked to the estimation of such causal effect. The results suggest, on average, that the reform improved (did not improve) the performance in Spanish (Mathematics). However, negative effects are obtained for public, rural or scarce resources schools. In addition, negative effects are obtained for schools located in poor municipalities or with extreme relative sizes.
