Indagando la concepción de ambiente en estudiantes al ingreso en la Facultad de Agronomía (Universidad de la República, Uruguay)

Abstract

El abordaje de la temática ambiental es de gran importancia en la formación de los ingenieros agrónomos dado que la gestión de los sistemas ambientales es el eje de su actividad y comprender las consecuencias de ello, permiten reorientar la intervención. Con el objetivo de identificar la concepción de ambiente de los estudiantes al ingresar; se les preguntó al inicio del curso de Ecología Agraria en la carrera de Agronomía, ¿Qué entiende por ambiente? Dado las diferencias epistemológicas subyacentes en las distintas disciplinas y abordajes, se consideró indistintamente ambiente, medio y medio ambiente. Se les solicitó que elaboraran en grupo una definición, recopilándose 172 de 320 estudiantes desde el año 2004 a 2011. Las respuestas se analizaron según la clasificación propuesta por Loughland et al. (2002) modificada por González (2004), en tres categorías: 1) focalizado en el objeto: incluye concepciones globalizada e indiferenciada, mecánica analítica y aditiva, o que incluye al ser humano como un componente más , 2) concepción intermedia que incorpora el concepto de interacciones entre componentes bióticos y abióticos aún sin mención de lo social y 3) focalizadas en las relaciones, concepción que concibe el ambiente como un sistema, incorporando la interacción entre sistemas sociales y naturales. Los resultados preliminares indicaron una mayor cantidad de respuestas en la categoría 1, promedio 46% en todo el periodo, la categoría 2 con 40% promedio de respuestas y finalmente la categoría 3 alcanzó el 14%. Comparando entre años, se registró un aumento de las respuestas en la categoría 3, cuadruplicándose desde 2009, alcanzando 30% de éstas en 2011, en detrimento de la categoría 1. Esto indicaría una incorporación de la complejidad inherente a considerar las interacciones de las dimensiones sociales y biofísicas en la conceptualización de ambiente, planteándose interrogantes y desafíos en torno a indagar el conjunto de elementos que promovieron este cambio.

Addressing environmental issues important in the formation of agronomists as the management of environmental systems is the core of their business and understand the consequences, allow redirect intervention. (2002) modified by González (2003), in three categories: 1) focused on the object: includes global and undifferentiated concepts, analytical mechanics and additive, or that includes the human being as an additional component, 2) intermediate design that incorporates the concept of interactions between biotic and abiotic components still no mention of the social, 3) focused on relationships, conception that sees the environment as asystem, incorporating the interaction between social and natural systems. Preliminary results indicated a greater number of responses in category 1, averaging 46% throughout the period, Category 2 with 40% response rate for Category 3 and finally reached 14%. Comparison between years, there was an increase of responses in category 3, quadrupling since 2009, reaching 30% of them in 2011, to the detriment of Category 1. This would indicate an incorporation of the inherent complexity of considering the interactions of the social and biophysical environment in conceptualizing, raising questions and challenging to investigate all factors that promoted this change.
