Abstract

Flauta longitudinal con canal de insuflación. Es el instrumento más popular entre los vascos. Prácticamente no falta en ninguna fiesta y se lo halla en cualquier lugar del mundo donde se encuentren representantes del Euzkadi (país vasco). Por transferencia el ejecutante o txistulari es un personaje de gran importancia en la vida social de este pueblo. Su cuerpo, externamente fusiforme, está realizado en ébano o maderas frutales, a los que se agregan en la actualidad materiales sintéticos. El txistu siempre es acompañado por un tamboril, membranófono de dos parches suspendido del hombro izquierdo del txistulari. Este lo percute con un palillo en su mano derecha. El repertorio cubre varios géneros, destacándose la música para danza: aurresku, ezpatadantza, suletina, etc.
