Maternidad y militancia ambiental en carne propia

Abstract

La particular concentración de actividades contaminantes radicadas en Bouwer (provincia de Córdoba) alarmó a sus habitantes, que en el año 2008 se alzaron contra la que consideraban la principal amenaza: el vertedero de residuos de la ciudad capital. Este artículo repone el primer año de protesta social haciendo foco en la mayoritaria presencia de mujeres para interrogarse por las motivaciones que las condujeron a integrar la organización vecinal y por el lugar de la maternidad como fundamento de sus intervenciones. Se analiza la participación pública como forma de defender la salud y la vida presente y futura de sus hijos/as, tanto como los usos estratégicos que las protagonistas de esta lucha hicieron de su condición de madres. Este proceso de acción colectiva que tuvo a las mujeres como a las principales portadoras de las reivindicaciones político-ambientales de la comunidad, las convirtió -en ese mismo transcurrir- en sujetos de significativas prácticas de agenciamiento individual, reflexividad y empoderamiento de género.

The particular concentration of pollutant activities established in Bouwer (Cordoba province) alarmed its inhabitants, who in the year 2008 raised against what they considered that was the principal threat: the landfill of the capital city. This article rebuids the first year of the social protest focusing in women's majority presence in order to question itself the motivations that drove them to integrate the local organization and the role of maternity as explanation of their interventions. Not only it is analyzed the public participation as a way of defending the health in addition to the present and future life of their children, but also the strategic uses that the protagonists of this struggle made out of their mothers' condition. This process of collective action that had women as the principal holders of the political-environmental community demands, turned them –as the process went along- into subjects of significant practices of individual agency, reflexivity and gender empowerment.
