La agrobiodiversidad como elemento articulador entre el hogar y el huerto urbano

Abstract

En Xalapa, Veracruz, México desde 2010 surgió una Red ciudadana autogestiva de agricultura urbana y periurbana que reúne a interesados en cultivar sus propios alimentos e intercambiar experiencias. Con el propósito de investigar el papel que juega la agrobiodiversidad en la modificación de hábitos alimentarios y el manejo de recursos en dichos hogares, se analizaron diez huertos: cinco urbanos y cinco periurbanos. Para medir la agrobiodiversidad de los sistemas de producción agrícola urbana y periurbana se empleó un índice de complejidad de diseño y manejo de la biodiversidad propuesto por Vázquez (2013) y modificado por los autores, y para conocer la percepción de las personas participantes sobre el impacto de la huerta en casa en sus hábitos alimenticios se emplearon una encuesta y una entrevista semi estructurada. Se encontró que la agrobiodiversidad depende mucho del espacio y de la experiencia de los horticultores, ésta se ve enriquecida con el intercambio de materiales, es también un elemento articulador, que mejora la alimentación y la economía del hogar, fomenta diálogo de saberes y promueve el tejido social y la transición a procesos agroecológicos comunitarios.

To measure the agrobiodiversity of urban and peri-urban agricultural production systems was used an index about the complexity of design and management of biodiversity proposed by Vázquez (2013) and modified by theauthors, and to know the perceptions of the participants about the impact of owning an orchard at home in their eating habits, were used a survey and a semi-structured interview. We found that agrobiodiversity dependsonmuchspace, the place where the garden is locatedand the experience of growers. AgrobiodiversityIsenriched by the experience exchange, beingalsoit a link element, which improves the power and thehousehold economy, promotes dialogue of knowledges and social fabricand the transition to agro-ecological community processes.
