For the achievement of a successful environmental rehabilitation from the architectural point of view, it is necessary to improve the knowledge about the composition of the building stock in cities and the dynamics of its transformations. Housing typologies have been studied in the present urban tissue of the City of Mendoza, Argentina, identifying among them one called Chalet. This typology of compact characteristics and poor envelope is today the most common to found in houses built in the last 40 years. Usually, the occupants of this typology perform transformations trying to approximate to the desired interior comfort. These adaptations are not usually architectonic, and they are rarely referred to improvements in the envelope and therefore usually incur in higher consumption of non-renewable energy to feed mechanical conditioning very promoted in the market for that purpose. The objective of this work is to give users new options to adapt their homes from the architectural point of view, enrich by interior-exterior relationships through the envelope. Bioclimatic opportunities of intervention for the Chalet typology are identified and proposals for summer environmental rehabilitation are presented.
