Probable discontinuidad del ciclo espermatogenético de Pleurodema bufonina

Abstract

Pleurodema bufonina, batracio propio de las regiones frías australes, no ha presentado actividad espermatogenética en las gonadas de algunos ejemplares estudiados, en el período invernal, a pesar de haber sido sometidos a temperaturas óptimas (temp media 22°, 1C; temp. media máx. 24° C; temp. media min. 20°. 1 C; temp. máx. abs. 29° C; temp. min. abs. 14° C). Se comunican estos datos preliminares, ilustrados por fotos demostrativas (corte histológico del testículo). La especie probablemente presenta fenómenos adaptativos en su ciclo sexual anual, análogos a los que presenta Rana temporaria de las regiones frías o subárticas del hemisferio septentrional.

During winter season high temperatures (average: 22°. 1C: average of temp. Maxim. 24° C; Minim. 20° 1 C. —Range 29° C— 14° C), do not evoke spermatogenesis, as normal gonadal activity, in specimens of Pleurodema bufonina a specialized south-american batrachian from the austral, patagónian, and magellanic territories. It has been pointed out from the first preliminary results, that this “discontinuous” hibernal activity agree with the periodic spermatogenetic cycle of Rana temporaria, other specialized frog from the northern hemisphere.
