Abstract

En el presente artículo se indaga sobre las necesidades que impulsaron el diseño de una fuente tipográfica como un sistema de información visual que unificó las señales viales en Gran Bretaña en 1967, con el fin de comprender el contexto histórico-cultural en el cual se desarrolló el proyecto, puntualizando en el aspecto de la forma de la fuente tipográfica, y observar las decisiones de diseño que condujeron a un resultado óptimo. Para este trabajo, se propone el análisis de la obra de los diseñadores Richard Kinneir y su colega Margaret Calvert, quienes llevaron adelante el proyecto de diseño.

This article intends to enquire about the needs that triggered the design of a font as a system of visual information that unified traffic signs in Great Britain in 1967 with the aim of understanding the historical and cultural context in which the project was developed, paying special attention to the aspect of the font shape, and observing the choices of design that led to a successful result. For this purpose, the analysis of the work of the designers Richard Kinneir and Margaret Calvert, who carried out the design project, is suggested.
