Mito y <i>performance</i> en la tragedia de Séneca

Abstract

El estudio del teatro romano parece desdibujarse por la ausencia de textos conservados, lo que produce la extraña impresión de que su existencia fue poco significativa y su importancia marginal. Sin embargo, sus producciones fueron decisivas para el desarrollo del teatro europeo. En primer lugar, se presenta un breve panorama del desarrollo de la tragedia en Roma, destacando sus características distintivas a fin de ubicar lo obra de Séneca en el escenario cultural de los de <i>ludí scaenici</i>, la <i>praetexta</i> y la tragedia. La recuperación escénica del mito se ejemplifica brevemente con <i>Oedipus</i>. Séneca recreó el material de la mitología trágica con elementos que, lejos de hacerla irrepresentable, contribuyen a reforzar su teatralidad y a hacerlas completamente espectaculares.

The study of the Roman theater seems to be blurred for the absence of texts conserved, what produces the strange impression that its existence was little significant and its importance marginal. Nevertheless, its productions were decisive for the development of the European theater. In the first place, we displayed a brief panorama of the development of the tragedy in Rome, emphasízing its dístinctive characteristics in order to locate the work of Seneca in the cultural scene of the <i>ludi scaenici</i>, the <i>praetexta</i> and the tragedy. The scenic recovery of the myth is illustrated briefly with <i>Oedipus</i>. Seneca recreates the material of the tragic mythology with elements that, far from doing it irrepresentable, they contribute to reínforce its theatricality and to do it completely spectacular.
