Senegaleses en Argentina: redes, trayectorias y asociaciones

Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es presentar una caracterización de la migración senegalesa en Argentina, migración que comenzó a mediados de la década de 1990 con individuos de origen diola, y se intensificó luego del año 2000 con población wolof y de pertenencia mouride. Prestaremos especial atención a sus características locales de inserción, la conformación de redes migratorias y laborales, la organización religiosa y las asociaciones de migrantes.

In this paper we present an anthropological approach to the senegalese migration in the province of Buenos Aires and the Ciudad Autónoma of Buenos Aires, in the general context of the African migration to Argentina. Senegalese migration to Argentina, which began in the mid1990s with Jola migrants and intensified in 2000 with the arrival of Wolof migrants belonging to the Murid Sufi order, shares similarities with movements to Southern Europe and the United States. The migration largely comprise of young men who are involved in trading activities and organized within religious and ethnic associations. However, local conditions in Argentina, specifically definitions of citizenship, engenders difference.
