The term «political discourse» in this work is not to be interpreted in its classical meaning, that is, as an allocution solemnely addressed to a particular audience. It has rather to be understood in its modern meaning, that is, asthe whole of all its statements, strategies and resources that are employed inorder to diffuse and deffend political ideas and programs. All the outstanding features of the Roman political discourse are analysed in detail in this paper. These features are shown, at the same time, as surviving in the nowaday political discourses. Furthermore, special attention is devoted to the common features shared by the ancient Roman and the modern political discourse.
