This work is part of the research project "Body, current times and current symptomatic manifestations: questions and challenges in child and youth psychopathology", which is carried out at the School of Psychology of La Plata National University. Specifically, our line of research within the project specializes in the possible articulation that can be found between the different current presentations of sexuality, the body and what is nowadays called “new sexual identities”.
On this opportunity, we focus the investigation on the notion of “sexual position” within the field of psychoanalysis, particularly on the developments of Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalysis and on the interpretation made by some contemporary analysts regarding this issue. The interest in the subject arises from verifying that the phrase "sexual position" is used in numerous texts written by psychoanalysts -especially of Lacanian orientation- often without clearly specifying what it implies. In these works, multiple relationships are usually found in terms of the place assigned to the body, its influence on the sexual position of the speaking individuals, its determination in the sexed “choice”, and whether it has a secondary incidence compared to other factors, such as the place it takes in the discourse and desire of the Other or the contingent encounters with the pleasure. In addition, we observe that in these authors the terms “feminine” and “masculine” frequently appear, either as adjectives or nouns, an issue that sometimes brings more confusion to the already tricky field of human sexuality, since, it is also possible to find variants around the meaning that these terms can get by the authors who have worked researching this matter.
