Education is recognized as a fundamental and universal human right by Argentine legislation and by multiple national and international human rights organizations, however its realization is subject to its full exercise. Therefore, this paper aims to make visible the practices and meanings that are built in the context of confinement when referring to access to education as a human right. Practices and meanings that must be taken into account when we intend to look at education in penal units because they give rise to a field of struggle, power, domination and limitations that leads us to ask ourselves, how and why those who reach access arrive to an educational space in penal units. In this way, the work aims to reconstruct and reflect on how these practices materialize through surveying and analyzing the behaviors, language, prison organization and daily life of people deprived of liberty and how this sense affects representation of the right to education.
