El encomio del trágico Agatón es un intermedio musical, una canción que detiene la avanzada conceptual del Banquete, pero con gravísimo poder proléptico. Se recupera todo lo dicho hasta allí, pero tergiversado por su enfoque de marcada impronta gorgiana. Cada comensal conlleva la concepción compuesta Amor-Belleza, donde todo amor es amor de cierta belleza. Distinguiendo el éros presentado por Agatón (erótica narcisista) intentaremos mostrar qué tipo de belleza nos presenta este comensal, y cuál es la poesía que le corresponde. Entonces se dará un agón paratextual, una referencia al gran combate que Platón sostuvo toda su vida: el conflicto entre filosofía y poesía. Mostraremos que Agatón, a la vez Narciso, poeta mimético, inspirado, poseso y cosmético, es la imagen del poeta que el filósofo ateniense detesta, que, como paradigma construido para este diálogo, tiene todos los defectos criticados a lo largo de la obra platónica y sirve para tematizar este enfrentamiento.

The tragic Agathon’s encomium is a musical interlude, a song that puts a stop to the conceptual procession in Symposium, but with a serious proleptic power. It recovers the totality of what is said there, but in a twisted way, by the hand of his gorgian approach. Each guest carries the composite concept of Love-Beauty, in which all love is love of a certain beauty. Distinguishing the éros presented by Agathon (erotic narcissistic) we’ll try to indicate what kind of beauty this speaker shows, and in consequence, which kind of poetry he represents. Then, with a paratextual agón, we’ll make reference to the great battle that Plato held throughout his life, the conflict between philosophy and poetry, from which we’ll demonstrate that Agathon, as a Narcissus, representing the mimetic, inspired, possessed and cosmetic poet, is the type of poet which is Athenian philosopher’s object of hatred, since his concentrates in himself all the defects criticized throughout Plato's work and serves to thematize this confrontation.
