Transformaciones territoriales en los Esteros del Iberá

Abstract

En las últimas décadas los Esteros del Ibera han sido modificados por acciones asociadas a obras tales como la construcción de terraplenes, endicamiento del agua y drenados para su reconversión a tierras agropecuarias o forestales y para el desarrollo turístico. Esto ha generado diversas alteraciones en el ambiente tales como pérdida de biodiversidad, fragmentación de hábitats, contaminación y deterioro de recursos, dinámica hídrica. El objetivo de esta presentación es comunicar algunos resultados a partir del análisis de recientes transformaciones en territorios de gran fragilidad ambiental como humedales y lechos de inundación de ríos y arroyos; producto del accionar de diferentes actores sociales en los Esteros del Ibera. Para la concreción de la investigación se exploraron diversas fuentes: estadísticas, documentos oficiales, fuentes periodísticas e imágenes satelitales, los cuales fueron analizados en correlación con los aportes de entrevistas a informantes claves y observación directa en territorio. A su vez se trabajó en el entorno SIG para la realización de distintos análisis espaciales y generación de cartografía temática fundamental para el avance de la investigación. En este sentido, ante las crecientes presiones económicas por expandir la frontera arrocera y forestal, urge gestionar acciones para la conservación de los Esteros del Ibera y humedales adyacentes, donde las medidas de protección del sistema provincial, nacional e internacional deberán buscar alternativas que valoricen y fomenten los humedales como uno de los ecosistemas más frágiles en los esteros.

In recent decades, Esteros del Ibera have been modified by actions associated with works such as the construction of embankments, the allocation of water and drainage for their conversion to agricultural or forestry lands and for tourism development. This has generated diverse alterations in the environment such as loss of biodiversity, fragmentation of habitats, pollution and deterioration of resources, water dynamics. The objective of this presentation is to communicate some results from the analysis of recent transformations in territories of great environmental fragility such as wetlands and flood beds of rivers and streams; product of the actions of different social actors in Esteros del Ibera. For the realization of the investigation, diverse sources were explored: statistics, official documents, journalistic sources and satellite images, which were analyzed in correlation with the contributions of interviews to key informants and direct observation in the territory. At the same time, the GIS environment was used to carry out different spatial analyzes and generate thematic cartography that is fundamental for the advancement of research. In this sense, given the growing economic pressures to expand the rice and forestry frontier, it is urgent to manage actions for the conservation of the Esteros del Ibera and adjacent wetlands, where measures to protect the provincial, national and international system should seek alternatives that value and promote wetlands as one of the most fragile ecosystems in estuaries
